JOB DESCRIPTION

Position Summary
The Accounting Manager is responsible for overseeing the firm’s day-to-day accounting operations, ensuring compliance with legal accounting standards, and maintaining accurate financial records. We are seeking candidates who can work full-time from our Lexington office and requires in-person collaboration. This role plays a critical part in managing trust accounts, financial reporting, and internal controls within a law firm environment.

Key Responsibilities
Accounting & Financial Operations
• Manage daily accounting functions including general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and payroll coordination
• Record and deposit checks and payments received to the bank daily
• Review and payment of vendor invoices while ensuring that appropriate costs are billed back to clients
• Ensure timely and accurate month-end and year-end close processes
• Maintain bank accounts, credit cards, and firm operating accounts
• Monitor client retainers, escrow balances, and disbursements
• Maintain internal controls and accounting procedures
• Coordinate with tax advisors and regulatory bodies as needed
• Identify opportunities to improve accounting systems, workflows, and financial reporting
• Assist with budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis for firm leadership as needed

Qualifications

Education & Experience
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (CPA preferred but not required)
• 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, preferably in a law firm or professional services environment
• Strong experience with trust accounting and regulatory compliance

Technical Skills
• Proficiency in legal accounting software preferred
• Advanced Excel skills; experience with financial reporting tools a plus

• Clear communication skills and ability to work with attorneys and senior leadership

Salary & Benefits
• Salary Range: $60,000 – $80,000 annually, commensurate with experience and qualifications
